Lift & Engineering Services Limited was founded by Michael Haywood in 1982. Michael began the company to fill a niche within the lift industry for on site services for other lift companies which included; fabricating, modifications, on site installations and lift removals. Operating from offices inside an old air raid shelter in Birmingham Lift & Engineering Services began its journey.

David and Wayne Haywood joined the company in 1983 and Lift & Engineering Services relocated to a small 500 sq foot work shop based within Halesowen. The manufacturing of lift components began whilst still carrying out on site services throughout England.

During May 1985 Lift & Engineering Services became a private limited company and throughout the 80's early 90's took the first steps on a successful and continued expansion programme by moving to larger premises, investing in modern machinery and recruitment of more staff which to this day the majority are still with us.

During 2003 Lift & Engineering Services Limited formed a department devoted to the service, installation and maintenance of Disabled Access Solutions. This includes a comprehensive range of Stair Lifts, Vertical Lifts, Bath Lifts, Hoists and other portable equipment. This equipment can be installed in a number of different locations ranging from public buildings to the private domestic dwellings.

In 2004 the company merged two sites in Sydney Road, Cradley Heath and Lye Valley Industrial Estate, to a 25,000 sq foot base in Portersfield Road, Cradley Heath, in order to bring manufacturing facilities and administration offices under one roof. The new headquarters offers not only greater production facilities but also expansion capacity and will have showrooms to house working examples of products, including passenger lifts, platform lifts and stair lifts.
