Bespoke Solutions - Case Study - Kenilworth Castle
Kenilworth Castle is the largest Castle ruin in England. It is one of the turrets of the building that Lift & Engineering Services Limited has ingeniously installed a passenger lift.
As Kenilworth Castle is a grade 1 listed buildings any work has to be granted scheduled monument class consent.
Case Study: The brief for Lift & Engineering Services Limited was to install a passenger lift within an existing octagonal turret that would provide disabled / wheelchair access to the two upper floors and as compliant with EN81-70 as possible.
What we achieved: Mr Dean (Project Manager) quotes 'As we could not impose large loads onto the existing stonework we had to design two separate structures that could be built within the 'shaft' to which we could fix the guides and all shaft equipment. In order to provide lateral stability we were only allowed to fix into the stonework's joints (we could not drill the stone) and all fixings had to be chemical with stainless steel studs'.
As access to the motor room was via the original timber spiral staircase and across the roof, it was therefore necessary to build a protective platform adjacent to the motor room door and crane all materials in.
The recently completed project is another prestigious bespoke installation from Lift & Engineering Services.
