We were delighted to receive a visit to our factory by the Worshipful the Mayor of Sandwell and his Wife. They toured our HQ, meeting the team and then toured the factory meeting the manufacturing engineers. They spent time with our Contract Management personnel and our apprentices.

The Mayor presented apprentice Alex Shaw with an award from the Council for his commitment shown to his apprenticeship, before celebrating our Made in Britain marque with us.

Following our recent success in being a finalist in the Manufacturer of the Year awards for the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Midlands Business awards, we are delighted to learn that we have now been selected as a finalist for the Manufacturer of the Year award in the Building Awards 2013 – a series of national awards run by the UK’s leading construction industry magazine, Building.

The awards dinner will be held on 18^th April and we hope to be bringing back this major accolade to the West Midlands.

In January we commenced a new and unique programme of training for all operatives and contract management personnel, that is not available to the industry yet.  Our first 6 employees spent a day at the National Lift Tower in Northampton, bringing it back into use for lift engineering training following it being out of use since Express closed it in 1997. 

Our employees are undergoing a modular programme of theoretical and practical training and assessment delivered by industry leading trainers, and accessing some unique facilities that provide training opportunities such as a 4m/s high rise lift – to undertake such training in live Client premises would not be feasible.  Our photographs shows Contract Manager Trudy Gardiner working on an exercise to change components

In April 2012 we once again put ourselves forward for an ‘International Safety Award’ given by the British Safety Council; which we have won every year since 2000. This year was no exception, for the second time we have achieved a Merit level award.

The British Safety Council has 7000 members, of which 600 were rewarded for their achievements and in the whole of the UK only two of those who achieved the Merit accolade were lift companies.

Our Health & Safety Officer Tony Blakemore who submitted our application for the award said, “It is always good to add another BSC plaque to the reception wall but a Merit is even better – especially alongside our newly accredited status of Level 2 training provider for BSC too”.

John Wilkinson Director of Lift & Engineering Services Ltd added, “We will continually strive to improve on all aspects of safety within our company and by doing so, next year we hope to achieve the highest award level with a Distinction!”.

We are delighted to inform our customers and associates that this year our company now incorporates three qualified Health & Safety Managers, Liz Nicholls, Tony Blakemore and Steve Wayman and in addition to their individual IIRSM memberships, Lift & Engineering Services Ltd has now achieved corporate membership of IIRSM (International Institute of Risk & Safety Management) to add to our membership of the British Safety Council and the Birmingham Health & Safety & Environment Association.
