Working safely, without compromise to a recognised standard – OHSAS 18001

To demonstrate our continued commitment to the Health, Safety and Welfare management for our business activities and personnel – in accordance with lift regulations, our Occupational Health Safety and Welfare (OH&S) systems have been certificated for compliance with the UK’s recognised national standard – OHSAS 18001.

All new starters receive relevant induction and training and the company’s Health, Safety and Welfare performance is monitored and continuously improved by our Health, Safety & Welfare committee of employees representing all operating departments of the company. To ensure this committee is effective and adds-value to the improvement of the safety culture of our business, all members receive comprehensive training and IOSH or similar qualifications. Our two H&S leaders are fully qualified with NEBOSH and higher qualifications. Our Joint Manging Directors also hold IOSH and NEBOSH health and safety qualifications.

Memberships of Relevant Organisations

As a responsible employer and in line with the requirements of Health & Safety and lift regulations, we take the subject of health and safety very seriously and ensure we are kept up to date with developments through our key organisational memberships. Our H&S leader is a member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). The company is a Corporate Member of the IIRSM.

We are members of the British Safety Council and have successively won their awards for our safety performance every year since 2000. These annual awards include many Merits and also an International Safety Award Distinction, which we understand to be a unique achievement for a lift company in the UK.

We hold registrations with independent H&S assessment schemes under the Safety Schemes In Procurement member schemes, which are CHAS and Safecontractor.

Lift & Escalator Industry Association Committees

In addition to our membership of H&S organisations, our SHEQ team have served on the Lift & Escalator Industry Association’s (LEIA) Safety & Environment Committee. SHEQ Manager Stacey Wilkes has served on the LEIA Education & Training Committee and now serves on the LEIA Safety & Environment.

We are signatories to the Lift & Escalator Industry Association Safety Charter, designed to encourage a culture of constant vigilance amongst all involved in the lift and escalator industry and all of our operatives receive a copy of the Lift & Escalator Industry Association’s Site Safety Handbook as well as the industry safety standard BS7255.
